Through the Library Information Consortium (LIC) was applied for a grant to the Small Grants Program of the Democratic Commission of the US Embassy by the Republican Youth and Children’s Library named after Bayalinov for the project "Creation of a web portal of the National Electronic Library (NEL) of Kyrgyzstan"

The purpose of this project is to create a web-portal of the National Electronic Library (NEL) of Kyrgyzstan for free information exchange, in which the following tasks will be consistently addressed:

  • Digitization of documents available in the regional libraries of the regions of Kyrgyzstan and Bishkek city relating to the that regions and Bishkek city, regardless of documents’ types (books, magazines, newspapers, maps, notes, audio files, video files, abstracts, articles, theses);
  • Placing  remotely digitized documents on the WEB portal  of NEL with a unique password for each regional library in the regions;
  •  Attracting  local authors from the regions of Kyrgyzstan on a voluntary basis who wish to be published and who do not haveу the opportunity to publish own works in paper format when signing an individual copyright agreement;
  • Attracting  other libraries in the regions  and Bishkek city to digitize and locate unique documents through equipment and a unique password of the regional libraries;
  • Ensuring equal and open access to the documents of the regions and Bishkek city despite the remoteness of the center and periphery.
  • Constant updating of full-text documents of the regions of Kyrgyzstan and Bishkek city in the WEB portal;
  • Improving access  to remote information of regions;
  • Instant information exchange with opportunity to download, preview, visually see the document
  • Joining to other national electronic libraries with digitized documents, if it coincides with the policy of the web portal
  • Adding other participants to the web-portal in the future: regional archives, museums, art associations, electronic resources of regional universities and so on;
  • Joining to other open international electronic web portals, NEL of CIS and so on, thereby expanding the informational opportunities of the population of Kyrgyzstan

 

Participants of the project: the Republican Youth and Children’s Library named after Bayalinov, Chui Regional Library, Naryn Regional Library, Talas Regional Library, Osh Regional Library, Batken Regional Library,  Issyk-Kul Regional Library, and Jalal-Abad Regional Library.
